The secret to delicious rice is determined by a farmer’s skills and the rice polishing date.
Even in the United States, Japanese-grown rice is now readily available online and at grocery stores. However, the rice that is generally distributed here is purchased from many farmers with different techniques and experience, all mixed together and sold in bags, so the taste and texture will differ depending on the bag.
Fresh rice is best! Oxidation starts when the rice is polished. The rice polishing date is very important for delicious fresh rice. Much of the Japanese-grown rice sold in the United States was milled in Japan several months to a year or more ago by large wholesalers.
We purchase brown rice directly from Sanei Farm on the Shonai Plain located in Yamagata Prefecture. Sanei Farm has a history of over 400 years, since the Edo period. They produce rice that is healthy and safe. Once harvested the rice is stored in temperature-controlled warehouses, before being shipped to our warehouse in Kent, WA. We only mill rice after we have received your order, guaranteeing delicious rice every time.
We are pleased to offer four varieties of Yamagata's finest rice: "Tsuyahime", "Yukiwakamaru", "Haenuki" and "Organic farmed rice Haenuki". These varieties are hard to find even in Japan.
